Area scan cameras contain a large matrix of pixels that capture a 2D image of a given area in one exposure cycle. The resulting image has a horizontal and vertical size that corresponds to the number of pixels on the sensor. Area scan cameras used in applications that allow the inspection of large wafers, PCB, and flat panel displays. Area scan cameras are best suited towards applications where the object is stationary, even if only momentarily.
